The match ended with a score of 7:6 (7:3), 6:7 (8:10), 6:3, 6:7 (5:7), 6:4 in favor of Rinderknech, who is unseeded, while Zverev was seeded at number 3.
In the second round, Rinderknech will play against Chilean Cristian Garin, who entered the tournament's main draw as a lucky loser.
Zverev is 28 years old and is ranked third in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings. The German has won 24 ATP tournaments and has reached the finals of the US Open (2020), the French Open (2024) and the Australian Open (2025). He is the Olympic champion (2021) in singles.
Rinderknech is 29 years old and is ranked 72nd in the world. He has no ATP titles. His best result in a Grand Slam tournament is reaching the third round of the US Open in 2023.
Wimbledon is the third Grand Slam tournament of the season, it is held on grass. The competition will end on July 13. The winner of the last two editions is Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
