One of the newcomers in Serie A - Cremonese, has changed its coach, with Davide Nicola, who led Cagliari last season, officially appointed to the position, AFP reported, quoted by BTA.

"Cremonese announced that it has entrusted the management of the representative team to Davide Nicola, who is committed to the club until June 30, 2027", the club explained in a statement.

Davide Nicola has managed Genoa (2019-20), Torino (2020-21), Salernitana (2021-22), Empoli (2023-24) and Cagliari, with whom he finished in 15th place. He succeeds Giovanni Stroppa, whose contract was not renewed despite promotion to Serie A.

Cremonese return to the top flight two years after being relegated and will be playing their ninth year in the top flight of Italian football. The Lombardy team won promotion after defeating Spezia in the play-offs. The other newcomers to the top flight are Sassuolo and Pazzi, who replace Monza, Venezia and Empoli.

Bulgarian international Valentin Antov plays on loan at Cremonese, but he is owned by Monza and it is not known where he will continue his career in the new season.
