Germany defeated Poland (2:0), and Sweden beat Denmark (1:0) in their first matches from Group C at the European Women's Football Championship, which is being held in Switzerland, BTA reports.
Germany had a modest first half and captain Julia Gwin was injured. Jule Brandt (No. 22) opened the scoring, sending the ball into the top corner of the Polish goal in the 52nd minute, and in the 66th she passed to Lea Schuler for 2:0.
Gwynne was forced to be substituted in the 40th minute due to a left knee injury she sustained in a collision with Polish star Eva Pajor.
The eight-time champions from Germany topped the provisional standings in Group C ahead of challengers from Sweden, who defeated Denmark 1:0. The winning goal was scored by Filippa Angeldal in the 55th minute.
