Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany said he was furious after Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury during the quarter-final match of the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain in Atlanta (USA) on Saturday night, BTA reports.
The 22-year-old German international was injured after a collision in the Parisians' penalty area. As Musiala fought for the ball with defender William Pacho, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma inadvertently trapped the Bayern player's left ankle, dislocating it at an alarming angle and leaving Musiala lying in agony on the pitch.
"I have rarely been so angry at half-time, not at my players. There are many important things in life, much more important than that. But at the end of the day, for these guys, it's their life," said Kompany. Bayern lost 2-0 to PSG.
"And Jamal lives for that and came back after an injury... What still makes my blood boil is not the result. I understand that this is football. But the fact is that it happened to someone who enjoys the game so much and is very important to us," continued Kompany.
According to "Bild" Musiala could be out of action for up to five months. Bayern goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer said Donnarumma's move was "risky" and that he had spoken to his Italian counterpart after the incident.
