Why is remote car ignition harmful? - 1

There is nothing more pleasant than getting into a pre-warmed car while it's bitter winter outside. Remote ignition has become a real boon for the modern driver, but according to experts, this extra is far from free for the health of your car. Now, we lift the curtain on the hidden dangers that lurk under the hood while you calmly drink your coffee at home.

The main problem lies in the engine's operation "on the spot". When the engine is idling with cold oil, the cylinder-piston group is put to the test. The thick lubricant does not immediately reach all the elements, and low revs slow down the warming up process. This leads to faster wear and accumulation of carbon deposits on the spark plugs and exhaust system. In practice, by trying to "spare" the car, you shorten its life cycle more efficiently than if you just drive off carefully a minute after starting.

The battery is also among the big losers. The starting process itself consumes a huge amount of energy, and when idling, the alternator cannot restore this charge. The result is a progressive battery drain, which on a cold day can leave you with a stationary car. Add to this the risk of “artisan“ interference with electronics - any poor-quality installation of a remote ignition module can lead to a short circuit or fire.

Last but not least, there is the issue of security. Remote starting is like an “open invitation” for car thieves. Intercepting the signal between the remote and the car allows experienced criminals to easily clone your key. So the car is not only warmed up for you, but also completely ready for unauthorized removal. Ultimately, the balance between comfort and common sense is delicate, and the price of heat in winter can be a salty repair in spring.
