Google to merge ChromeOS and Android into one platform - 1

Google has officially confirmed the long-rumored plans to merge its ChromeOS and Android operating systems into one common platform. This was revealed by Samir Samat, president of the Android ecosystem at Google, during an interview with TechRadar.

First official confirmation

When talking to a TechRadar journalist, Samat asked why he uses Apple products (Apple Watch, iPhone and MacBook), explaining his question as follows: “I asked because we are going to merge ChromeOS and Android into one platform and I am very interested in how people currently use their laptops and what they do with them.“

This is the first time Google has publicly acknowledged these plans. Although no specific details about the initiative were revealed, earlier speculation suggested that Google would rather port ChromeOS to Android than develop an entirely new platform. The management's interest in how users use their laptops in the context of this project could mean that Google is still exploring options for optimizing the future platform before its launch.

Android and larger screens

The confirmation of the merger comes amid Android's hard work to integrate new features aimed at improving the user experience on devices with larger screens. These innovations include:

Full desktop mode: Allows for better use of large displays.
Window mode: For more efficient multitasking.
Improved external display management: Provides better compatibility with monitors and TVs.
Increased application responsiveness: For smoother and faster work.

These steps suggest the direction in which Google is moving, paving the way for a unified operating system that will offer a more flexible and integrated experience on both mobile devices and laptops.
