Israeli police said on Monday they had arrested a man who threatened to kill Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Reuters reported, as quoted by BTA.
According to reports, shortly before the start of the Jewish New Year on Monday evening, a man in his 40s from the southern city of Kiryat Gat entered the local police station and said he would kill Netanyahu.
"The suspect told officers he planned to purchase a firearm and shoot the prime minister three times," police said.
The man was detained and an indictment against him is expected to be filed today. Police want to keep the man in custody until the end of the court proceedings.
Poll surveys show that Netanyahu is losing public support due to the almost two-year-long war in Gaza against "Hamas", which has led to fears of increasing Israel's isolation worldwide.
There are 48 hostages in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be still alive, and their families have called on the Israeli government to strike a deal to return their loved ones home, "Reuters" notes.
