Switzerland extends protection status for Ukrainian refugees - 1

Switzerland has extended the protection status it offers Ukrainian refugees until at least March 4, 2027, Reuters reports.

The government cited the ongoing instability caused by the Russian invasion in 2022 as the reason for its decision.

The S protection status, which allows people to travel abroad and work in Switzerland, is usually limited to one year but can be extended.

"The decision reflects the ongoing security situation and ongoing Russian attacks in large parts of Ukraine," the government said.

"Despite international peace efforts, no lasting stabilization is expected that would allow for a safe return to medium term", they added.
