The current Moldovan leadership clings to power, stopping at nothing, Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov told TASS.

“We see how the Moldovan authorities are desperately clinging to power, trying to keep it, and are stopping at nothing in the elections to cling to power“, the Kremlin spokesman said.

Commenting on the military strategy adopted by Chisinau, Peskov stressed that “they continue their hostile line“ towards Moscow.

“Here one can only express regret“, the press secretary of the Russian president emphasized.

The parliamentary elections in Moldova were held on September 28. The ruling Party of Action and Solidarity, which occupied 63 of the 101 seats in parliament, retained control with 55 seats. The opposition announced its disagreement with the results of the vote and plans to appeal them "due to numerous violations of voters' rights".

On October 8, the Moldovan government approved a new military strategy for the country, which identifies Russia as a threat and outlines plans to increase military spending to at least 1% of GDP.
