The Iranian embassy in Mexico has rejected as "lies" reports of an assassination attempt by Iranian intelligence services on the Israeli ambassador to the country.

„The accusations of an alleged assassination attempt by Iran against the Israeli regime's ambassador to Mexico are a media fabrication, a big lie aimed at damaging the friendly and historical relations between our countries, Mexico and Iran. "We categorically reject such allegations," the diplomatic mission in Mexico said in a statement.

The diplomatic mission stressed that Iran and Mexico "have overlapping interests." "We will never betray the trust that the Mexican government has placed in us," the diplomatic mission added.

It also noted that "accusations of anti-Semitism against Iran are a big lie invented in the minds of the racist leaders of Israel." "There are more than 100 synagogues in Iran, all of which are open to the public and do not require security. During the Israeli aggression against Iran in June, not a single case of verbal abuse against the large Jewish community in the country was recorded," the embassy said. The diplomatic mission called for a "study of the number of cases of anti-Semitism registered in Iran and a comparison of these data with those in the United States."

Mexican authorities also said earlier that they had no information about the alleged assassination attempt on the Israeli ambassador to the country.

On Friday, Axios, citing unnamed American and Israeli officials, reported that Iranian intelligence services were planning an assassination attempt on the Israeli ambassador to Mexico. According to the publication, the plot was conceived by the "Quds" force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The plan began in late 2024 and continued into the first half of 2025. According to Axios, the target was the Israeli ambassador to Mexico City, Einat Kranz-Niger.

According to the media outlet, Mexican intelligence this summer foiled the plot, which was conceived by a Quds Force agent working at the Iranian embassy in Venezuela and recruiting agents in Latin America. “The plot has been foiled and does not currently pose a threat,” a U.S. official said. The alleged mastermind of the assassination attempt reportedly returned to Iran.

Mexico’s Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection said they had no information about an alleged assassination attempt on the Israeli ambassador to the country. This was stated in a joint communiqué issued by the ministries.

The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that it is committed to maintaining constant and open communication with all diplomatic missions accredited in the country. The Ministry of Security, for its part, stated that it will continue respectful and coordinated cooperation with all relevant security agencies, acting strictly within the framework of national sovereignty.
