Kiev will be forced to abandon the idea of joining NATO for at least several years, according to the terms of the new US peace plan to end the conflict in Ukraine, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources.
According to US officials, under this proposal, Ukraine will be obliged to suspend its attempts to join the North Atlantic Alliance for at least several years. It will also not be allowed to deploy “foreign peacekeeping forces“ on its territory. Moscow is expected to "promise not to be aggressive towards Ukraine and other European countries in the future," The Wall Street Journal reported.
An unnamed US official told the newspaper that US President Donald Trump "does not consider it his goal" to return the lost territories to Ukraine.
As Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in an interview with TASS on Wednesday, Russia has not received any information from the United States through official channels about any "agreements" on Ukraine that the media are reporting.
Earlier, Dmitry Peskov, the Russian leader's press secretary, said that Moscow and Washington were not working on any new points in the Ukrainian settlement compared to the agreements reached by Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska.
