Russia does not consider it appropriate to discuss the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine with the United Kingdom due to London's inability to realistically assess the situation.

This was stated by the Russian ambassador to the United Kingdom Andrei Kelin, quoted by TASS.

„As for London, we do not see much point in such contacts at the moment. The British establishment, of course, promotes its own approaches to the Ukrainian conflict. They are developing. A few years ago they spoke about the need to inflict a strategic defeat on our country, demanding the destruction of its economy and its complete isolation on the international stage. Now the „song“ is different – to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position for negotiations with Russia“, the diplomat said.

He explained that “the discussion is mainly about new financial injections and arms supplies“. “However, they are not inclined to take a sober look at the state of affairs on the front line or the situation in Ukraine itself“, said Kelin.

Regarding recent reports in the British media about a telephone conversation between British Prime Minister Jonathan Powell, national security adviser, and adviser to the Russian president, Yuri Ushakov, the head of the Russian diplomatic mission expressed distrust of the British side's intentions. “Such a conversation really took place, I can confirm this. "This was a one-time action in which the British apparently tried not only to establish contact, but also to convince Donald Trump that they were also making efforts to establish a channel of communication with Russia," said Kelin.

He also reported that the dialogue on Ukraine between Russia and the United States was continuing. "I can confirm that we are in contact with Washington regarding the Ukrainian agreement," the diplomat noted.
