Brazilian Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Morais has allowed former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro to leave the Federal Police pre-trial detention center in the capital, Brasilia, where he is serving a 27-year sentence for an attempted coup, to undergo a surgical procedure, Reuters reported, citing local television station "GloboNews".
The supreme judge's decision is in response to a request from Bolsonaro's lawyers last week, when they also asked the court to allow him to serve his sentence under "humanitarian house arrest". Bolsonaro was convicted in September of plotting a coup after losing the 2022 presidential election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
