US President Donald Trump has announced that he will block the opening of the Gordie Howe Bridge between Canada and Michigan until the US gets half ownership of the structure.
“We will start negotiations immediately. Given everything we have given them, we should own at least half of this asset. The profit that Canada will make from the US market will be astronomical“, Trump said on TruthSocial.
The US president based his demands on a number of grievances against the neighboring country. He claimed that the 44th US President Barack Obama “made a stupid mistake“ by allowing the construction of the Gordie Howe Bridge without the use of American steel. The White House chief accused Canada of banning the sale of American alcohol in Ontario and of "unacceptable" tariffs on dairy products. He took the opportunity to comment again on Canada's possible rapprochement with China.
