The US military shot down a Customs and Border Protection drone in Texas using a laser, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
According to the agency, the incident occurred on February 26 near El Paso and has drawn the attention of members of the US Congress.
“Our heads are spinning over the alleged shooting down of a Customs and Border Protection drone by the Pentagon using a high-risk anti-drone system“, the Associated Press quoted members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as saying.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) closed airspace in the area of the incident.
A similar incident occurred in Texas a few weeks ago. On February 11, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that the Pentagon and the FAA had neutralized a drone that violated U.S. airspace, allegedly belonging to a Mexican drug cartel.
However, according to several U.S. media outlets, laser technology was actually used against balloons that border agents mistook for drones.
