The gates of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre have opened to believers who have arrived in Jerusalem to await the miracle of the descent of the Holy Fire.
Before the ceremony, the church is closed and sealed, and its premises are checked to ensure that there are no artificial sources of fire. Then the doors are opened and believers begin to enter. Immediately after the doors are opened, doves - birds symbolizing peace - fly out of the church.
The first group of pilgrims then rush into the church, where they will await the descent of the Holy Fire. It descends into the Quidukula - a chapel in the center of the church that hides the cave of the Holy Sepulchre. There is a slab, especially revered by all Christians, under which Jesus Christ was buried. Throughout history, no one has been able to unravel the mystery of this miracle, despite numerous attempts.
