The best way for the war in Ukraine to end and have peace is for Russian President Vladimir Putin to be convinced that he cannot win on the battlefield and must negotiate. This was stated today by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg after the first day of the meeting of foreign ministers from the alliance at the headquarters of the pact in Brussels, writes BTA.
Putin must sit down at the negotiating table to reach an agreement where Ukraine remains a sovereign nation. When the war ends, we must be sure that it is not continued later, as happened after the seizure of Crimea and the subsequent entry of Russian forces into the eastern parts of Ukraine before the actual war began two years ago, Stoltenberg added. /p>
NATO will not become part of the conflict in Ukraine. As friends of Ukrainians, we have the right, under international law, to help them defend themselves. We are not discussing NATO's combat presence in Ukraine, explained the Secretary General.
He again called on the US to take an urgent decision to send additional aid to Ukrainian forces. Every day of delay affects the situation on the battlefield, the Russians today have more weapons and ammunition than Ukraine, Stoltenberg said. NATO countries have the responsibility to provide the Ukrainian side with what it needs to repel the invaders, the Secretary General insisted.
According to him, today the foreign ministers discussed the possibilities of coordinated military supplies to Ukraine, and a decision is expected in the coming weeks. All allies approve of the need to continue aid to Ukraine, the Ukrainians lack not courage, but ammunition, Stoltenberg added.
