The changes that “Hamas” demanded in the cease-fire proposal presented by the US are "insignificant" and include the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip, a senior leader of the group told Reuters, quoted by BTA.
Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, recently shared that Hamas has proposed several amendments to the US-backed ceasefire plan. Although some of these adjustments are considered impractical, the commitment to continue negotiations remains strong.
The group's demands include the freedom of 100 Palestinians serving long sentences in Israeli prisons, highlighting a key sticking point in the discussions.
Hamas has expressly objected to any proposal that would skip these prisoners or limit release to those with no more than 15 years left on their sentences.
Despite these points of disagreement, a senior Hamas leader noted that the requested changes do not significantly alter the group's position, indicating a potential openness to finding common ground.
Negotiations are ongoing, and the focus remains on bridging the differences between the positions of the participating countries with the ultimate goal of achieving lasting peace in the region.
