Floods and landslides in South Korea disrupt train services - 1

South Korea's National Railway Company today suspended train services on some regular routes and delayed high-speed trains due to heavy rains in the central part of the country , which have been raining since Sunday and caused floods and landslides, reported Reuters.

Early this morning, nearly 100 mm of rain fell in the city of Gunsan in just one hour, and according to the weather service, more than 200 mm of rain fell in a day in a number of places in the central part of the country.

The Ministry of the Interior reported that one person died after a wall fell on him. Heavy damage was done to buildings, roads and other infrastructure.

The national railway company "Korail" announced that it has stopped the movement of trains on six regional lines. In some areas, high-speed trains run more slowly.

In South Korea, July is usually the time of the monsoon, but in recent years, extreme weather events have been observed during the summer months, which President Yoon Suk-yeol says should be expected due to climate change.
