The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko named several main versions of the murder of former Verkhovna Rada deputy Irina Farion, including personal enmity and her socio-political activities.
„The main versions under consideration at the moment: personal enmity and socio-political activity of Farion”, Klimenko wrote on his Telegram channel. According to him, the law enforcement authorities do not rule out that the murder was ordered.
Ukrainian media reported that an unknown person shot Farion near her home in Lviv. Later, the information about the attempt against the former deputy was confirmed by the National Police of Ukraine. Law enforcement authorities are taking measures to identify and detain the attacker, pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.
In the fall of 2023, Farion found himself at the center of several scandals related to insults to Russian-speaking Ukrainians from the nationalist Azov formation. Then she was fired from the Lviv Polytechnic University. The Security Service of Ukraine opened a criminal case against the former deputy under several articles, in particular, for violating the equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, regional affiliation, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds.
