Three people are dead after a small plane crashed into a row of homes on Saturday in the city of Fairview east of Portland, Oregon, the Associated Press reported, citing BTA, citing the television channel KATU-TV.
Photos and video footage released by KGW-TV in Portland showed one of the homes engulfed in flames and black smoke billowing from neighboring buildings. Gresham Fire Chief Scott Lewis said the fire had spread to at least four homes and forced six families to flee. Two people were treated at the scene, he said, but did not specify the severity of their injuries.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was a twin-engine “Chesna“ 421C. It went down around 10:30 a.m. local time near Troutdale Airport.
During its fall, the plane hit a pole and wires, which also caused a fire in a nearby field.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
