Spokesman for "Hamas" revealed to AFP that some of the six hostages found dead by the Israeli army had been previously set for release, BTA reports.
Among the dead are the American Hersh Goldberg-Poulin and two Israeli women – Carmel Gat and Eden Yerushalmi. They were on a list for early release, part of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which has been negotiated for several months.
The list was approved by "Hamas".
The revelation highlights the complexities and challenges involved in securing peace, as well as the loss of life in these efforts. The situation remains tense, and the road to reconciliation and peace continues to be fraught with challenges.
