The Nikopol District Court remanded a Romanian citizen in custody for illegal logging - 1

The Nikopol District Court imposed the most severe detention measure for a Romanian citizen detained on Bulgarian territory for illegal logging. The man remains permanently in custody, Pleven district prosecutor Vladimir Radoev announced, as quoted by BTA.

The case dates back to October 3, when during a specialized police operation on the island of Srednjak in the Danube River, illegal logging was detected. One of the offenders was shot unintentionally by a police officer after he showed aggression that threatened the officer's life. The wounded man was taken to a hospital in Bucharest for treatment, and another policeman received minor injuries.

The detainee is the 20-year-old son of the injured man. He is charged with four offences, including illegal border crossing, obstructing police officers, illegal logging and causing minor bodily harm to a police officer.

The man can appeal the measure before the District Court in Pleven, prosecutor Radoev added.
