If North Korea sends its troops to help Russia in the war against Ukraine, it will fundamentally change the shape of this war. This was stated by the military expert and former commander of the “Aidar“ battalion to FREEDOM TV. Eugene Dickey.
Then the West will have to review not only the scale of aid provided to Ukraine, but also its role in this conflict, the Ukrainian expert said.
According to him, the North Korean army will become “consumable“ for Moscow. At the same time, he called “extremely unpleasant“ the prospect of North Korean military appearing at the front in Ukraine.
„As ineffective as this consumable may prove to be, and most likely it will be completely unprepared for such a war, its quantity could become a serious factor if Comrade Kim Jong Un, say, sent a million of his fighters here. Then even if they are bad and unprepared fighters, a million is still a million,” said Dickius.
He recalled that the North Korean projectiles supplied to Russia turned out to be very bad - almost one in four did not explode, many even exploded upon launch. But the number of these shells transferred to Moscow has already reached three million, while Ukraine's European allies have not yet reached a million shells per year.
„I think the same story could happen with the soldiers. They will be of low quality, but if the decision is made that North Korea enters the war, the number could be very significant. But this will change everything. Direct entry of the North Korean military into the war will mean a different format for this conflict. And this, of course, will cause a completely different reaction from the West”, said Yevgeny Dikiy.
Dikiy noted that so far the West has tried to do everything possible so that this war does not turn into a global one, but remains localized. And these attempts to avoid escalation are extremely expensive for Ukraine, says the veteran.
„But if all of a sudden half a million or a million North Korean soldiers come here, that means the whole policy of non-escalation has not worked at all,” he pointed out.
Earlier this week, South Korean intelligence said North Korean soldiers were most likely killed in Ukraine, where they were sent to help Russia. Seoul expects Pyongyang to send more troops to the Ukrainian front to help its Russian ally.
