Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections provided an opportunity to make a leap forward towards resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, speaking on Sunday evening on the television program TV2.
„We have approached the world not one step, but seven miles at a time,” he said, commenting on the results of the US election. He added that everyone is "thinking how Trump will achieve peace" in Ukraine.
Orban noted that he was not surprised by the victory of the candidate of the Republican Party in the battle for the White House. "I was confident of his victory. Because people are tired of wars, migration and gender”, said the prime minister and specified that, in his opinion, people in both Europe and America are tired of these problems.
„It was obvious that the Democrats were going to lose. It was as clear to me as two and two are four”, said Orbán.
He also stressed that Trump's imminent return as US president will be good for Hungary as it will save it from unnecessary costs and economic losses caused by the Ukrainian conflict. The head of government said next week the preparation of the country's 2025 budget will enter its final stage, noting that it will be a “budget for peace, not war”.
„Trump's victory will bring peace and we want to make a big deal with the Americans,” Orbán said, adding that he expects to reach an agreement with Trump on some important economic issues.
