Kazakhstan sends AZAL aircraft recorders to Brazil  - 1

In accordance with the standards of Annex 13 of the Chicago Convention, the state conducting the investigation ensures that the flight recorders are read and decides on the choice of the state for reading and decoding the black boxes. Kazakhstan ratified this convention in 1992. and is a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Based on the above document, as well as taking into account the recommendations of ICAO and consultations with the aviation authorities of Azerbaijan and Russia, the Commission for the Investigation of Aircraft Accidents, headed by the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev, decided to send the flight recorders (black boxes) to the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aviation Accidents in Brazil (CENIPA), which is also the country of manufacture of the Embraer aircraft.

CENIPA has the necessary technical capabilities, is equipped with the appropriate equipment and a certified laboratory for their interpretation.

On December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane crashed in Kazakhstan near Aktau, performing a flight from Baku to Grozny. There were 67 people on board, including five crew members. As a result of the incident, 38 passengers died, 29 people survived.

The Transport Prosecutor of the Mangistau Region Abylaybek Ordabayev announced at a briefing in Aktau that flight recorders had been discovered at the crash site.

Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting in connection with the plane crash near Aktau, during which he noted that the rescue work was carried out at a high level.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, in an interview with Azerbaijani television, expressed gratitude to the people of Kazakhstan for rescuing the victims of the plane crash. According to the head of Azerbaijan, the Kazakhs risked their lives.
