The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) announced that they had carried out a strike on a temporary site in the Belgorod region of Russia, in which four Russian military helicopters were destroyed - two Ka-52 and two Mi-8. The information was disseminated by the BBC.
According to a press release published by the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SOF), the operation was carried out jointly with the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, as well as with the participation of the missile troops and artillery.
The statement specifies that the strike was carried out on the so-called. "jump site" - a temporary facility used for the rapid transfer of aviation equipment or for carrying out surprise attacks.
The Ka-52 helicopter is an attack helicopter used for direct fire support and destruction of armored vehicles, while the Mi-8 serves mainly for transporting personnel, cargo, and for logistical support of ground operations.
Belgorod Oblast borders the Kharkiv Oblast of Ukraine and is one of the Russian territories that regularly become the target of Ukrainian strikes, especially after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The area has been used as a rear area for the deployment of military equipment and for supplying Russian units on the eastern front. In recent months, drone attacks, artillery shelling, and incidents with sabotage groups have become more frequent in Belgorod Oblast.
The Russian side has not yet confirmed the strike, nor has it published official or unofficial information on the case. The BBC notes that it cannot independently verify the veracity of the Ukrainian military's claims.
