A Ukrainian court sentenced in absentia the head of the Russian Republic of Dagestan Sergey Melikov to eight years in prison for aiding the participants in the hostilities, the Security Service of Ukraine in the Chernivtsi region reported.
According to data published on the regional administration's Facebook page, the Chernivtsi district court found Melikov guilty on charges of financing actions carried out with the aim of changing the borders of Ukraine. The court sentenced him in absentia to eight years in prison.
The Security Service Directorate notes that the head of the region provides "comprehensive support to the Russian armed forces" and calls on his fellow citizens to help.
On March 23, the press service of the head of the republic reported that the amount of humanitarian aid from Dagestan for the participants in the 4th special military operation" exceeded 25 thousand tons.
