The US decision to stop deliveries of certain types of weapons to Ukraine concerns in particular the important 155-mm ammunition for the front line, the high-precision GMLRS missiles for HIMARS and probably missiles for Patriot, NASAMS and F-16 fighter jets, Defense Express wrote on Wednesday, July 2.
These ammunition were transferred to Ukraine under the "Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative" (USAI) program, under which they were ordered from manufacturers. In fact, it is about stopping the transfer of most missiles for anti-aircraft missile systems.
In particular, the list includes AIM-7 missiles, for which Ukrainian Buk air defense systems were reformatted under the FrankenSAM project. The United States has apparently also stopped the transfer of Stinger missiles, which are used in the Avenger air defense system.
As for the AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, the Defense Forces use them for ground-launched and ground-based targeting at ranges of up to 8 km.
A huge role is also played by the GMLRS for HIMARS, which are a means of delivering precision strikes at ranges of up to 80 km, Ukrainian media reports. It is also difficult to underestimate the role of the 155-mm artillery ammunition, of which the United States has supplied Ukraine with more than 3 million. units.
Although the list of munitions that have been suspended includes AIM-9 and AIM-120, it also includes the delivery of anti-aircraft missiles for NASAMS and F-16 fighter jets. MIM-23 HAWKs have also been delivered to Ukraine under the USAI program.
It is not yet known whether the United States will resume the delivery of these weapons to Ukraine. Analysts do not rule out the possibility that America will completely stop military aid to Kiev.
On July 1, Politico reported that the Pentagon had temporarily suspended the delivery of some air defense missiles and other precision-guided munitions to Ukraine due to concerns about excessive reductions in its own arsenals. According to the publication, the decision was made in early June, but has only now come into effect.
Later, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly confirmed the decision to suspend some arms supplies to Ukraine after reviewing the assistance provided by the Department of Defense and support from other countries.
A serious problem for the Ukrainian army! The Pentagon has also stopped deliveries of 155-mm shells to Kiev
