The heat wave that has gripped Greece continues today, with forecasts that temperatures will reach 40 degrees Celsius. Cooling is expected only by Thursday, reports the Greek publication “Kathimerini“, quoted by BTA.
According to the National Meteorological Service, the highest temperatures will be recorded in Thessaly, Epirus and the western mainland, where forecasts are for temperatures from 38 to 40 degrees. The eastern mainland and the Peloponnese will see slightly lower maximum temperatures of 37 to 39 degrees, while temperatures in the Ionian Islands will hover between 35 and 36 degrees.
Overall, no cloud cover is expected, although local clouds are possible over the central and northern mainland during the afternoon and evening hours.
Authorities are on high alert due to the heat, which increases the risk of local power outages due to grid overload.
Despite assurances that the power system has been reinforced to cope with the increasing demand, mainly from the widespread use of air conditioning, authorities warn that short, isolated outages on medium-voltage power lines, as experienced during the previous heat wave this summer, cannot be ruled out.
