Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that the main focus of his talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington this week was the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip by the radical Palestinian group "Hamas", Reuters reports, BTA reports.
The Israeli prime minister added that he and Trump also discussed the implications and opportunities arising from the "great victory achieved over Iran". This is Netanyahu's third visit to the United States since Trump began his second presidential term on January 20 this year.
On Monday, the US president hosted a dinner in Netanyahu's honor, and a day later the two held an official meeting.
On October 7, 2023, "Hamas" carried out a surprise cross-border attack on Israeli territory, which led to the beginning of the conflict in the Gaza Strip that continues to this day. According to Israeli data, about 1,200 people were killed in the attack and 251 people were kidnapped as hostages.
According to the latest data from the "Hamas" Health Ministry, more than 57,000 Palestinians have died in the course of the Israeli military offensive in the enclave, Reuters notes.
