Did Air India plane crash due to cockpit confusion? - 1

The investigation into the crash of an Air India plane last month is far from over and it is unwise to draw hasty conclusions, its chief executive Campbell Wilson said in an internal memo circulated within the company after the release of the preliminary report of investigators, BTA reported.

The memo was circulated among Air India employees after the release of the report, which showed cockpit confusion shortly before the crash of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which killed 260 people. The investigation found that the fuel flow to the engines was cut off almost simultaneously.

"The release of the preliminary report marks the moment when we and the rest of the world are beginning to get details about what happened. Not surprisingly, it provides greater clarity, but also raises additional questions," the note, cited by Reuters, said.

Wilson added that "the preliminary report neither establishes the cause nor makes any recommendations". "Therefore, I urge everyone to avoid jumping to conclusions as the investigation is far from over," he wrote.

The plane took off for London from the Indian city of Ahmedabad but began to lose altitude and crashed shortly after takeoff, the report from India's Air Accident Investigation Branch said.

According to a statement issued to officials, the preliminary report found no technical or maintenance problems. The plane had passed all required technical inspections.

Meanwhile, South Korea's transport ministry is preparing to order all South Korean airlines operating Boeing aircraft to inspect fuel switches according to instructions. No date has been set for the inspection, Reuters noted.
