The Syrian presidency declared an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire on Monday after several days of fierce fighting in the predominantly Druze area of the southern Syrian city of Sweida, which has killed more than 700 people, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
In an official statement, the authorities called on all parties to the conflict, which began with clashes between the Druze community and Sunni Bedouins, to immediately stop hostilities and adhere to a ceasefire.
Shortly before that, the Syrian Interior Ministry announced that Syrian internal security forces were already starting to deploy their personnel in the Sweida area.
On Saturday, the US Ambassador to Ankara, Tom Barak, announced that Israel and Syria had reached an agreement on a ceasefire between themselves.
