Western experts are confident that US President Donald Trump has irreversibly changed the world order in the first six months of his second presidential term, writes the newspaper Politico.
After talking to former US officials and political experts on the sidelines of the annual security forum in Aspen, Colorado, the journalists of the publication note that after six months of Trump at the head of the US administration “national security elites recognize that this president has irreversibly changed the world order“.
According to them, Trump “has dealt a blow to many aspects of the post-war order in trade and in the field of long-term cooperation“.
The newspaper quoted statements by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who admitted that the United States “probably will not return to the previous system“, noting that “her words reflect the astonishing effectiveness of the second Trump administration“.
Politico notes that forum attendees are “trying to adapt to the Trump administration’s ‘America First’ world order.”
As Politico points out, during Trump’s first term (2017-2021), members of the “national security establishment” believed they could influence his policies and believed his decisions could be easily reversed once he left office. Now, those same experts are “struggling to find a strategy to at least partially influence” the administration’s policies, the newspaper notes.
