The ships of American merchant shipping companies will become a target of the military wing of the Houthis, which controls most of northern Yemen, if they interact with Israeli ports, despite the previously reached ceasefire with Washington.
This was stated to RIA Novosti by Mohammed al-Buhaiti, a member of the group's politburo, noting that this should not affect compliance with agreements with the United States.
On Sunday, the representative of the military wing of the Houthis, Yahya Sariya, said that the movement would attack the ships of any company interacting with Israeli ports, regardless of the ships' destinations and which country they belong to.
„We are forced to expand our operations against the ships of international companies, who interact with Israel, including the US, as part of our support for the Palestinian people to lift the blockade of the Gaza Strip and stop the mass genocide,“ he said.
According to al-Buhaiti, the attacks on US ships were a response to the aggression against Yemen in early 2024 in accordance with the legitimate right of self-defense and were not related to what was happening in the Gaza Strip.
