A Russian attack killed three people in Zaporizhia region in southeastern Ukraine last night, the region's governor Ivan Fedorov said, as Moscow's forces continue their slow advance along the 1,000-kilometer front line, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Fedorov wrote on the Telegram app that the three people were killed in an attack on the city of Stepnogirsk. Private homes were also destroyed.
Reuters said it could not independently confirm the situation on the battlefield.
A military spokesman said on Saturday that Ukrainian troops were holding their positions in the town of Kamianske, a few kilometers south of Stepnogirsk, despite Russian attempts to retake the town.
Fedorov's statement came amid reports in recent days of new Russian offensives in eastern and southeastern Ukraine, Reuters reported.
Ukrainian Army Chief of Staff Oleksandr Syrsky said Russian forces were changing their tactics, using smaller sabotage units in an attempt to continue their advance in Donetsk region.
Russian forces have focused their offensive in parts of Donetsk region, particularly around the Pokrovsk logistics center, which has been under siege for months. of Russian attacks.
The Russian Defense Ministry said Thursday that its forces had achieved significant success by capturing the town of Chasov Yar after months of fighting, although Ukraine did not confirm the information. The Russian Defense Ministry said Saturday that it had taken control of another village near Pokrovsk.
Yesterday, Pushilin, the Russian-appointed head of the Donetsk region units under Moscow's control, said in a video posted online last night that the capture of the high-altitude town of Chasov Yar would allow Russian forces to achieve further successes.
Syrsky wrote on Facebook on Saturday that his forces were fighting the fiercest battles around Pokrovsk and in two other sectors.
“At the same time, the Russians are resorting to the tactic of “total infiltration“ with increased sabotage actions in our rear,” he wrote. "This is how they are trying to enter Pokrovsk," Sirsky added.
According to him, Ukrainian forces have created "counter-sabotage reserves, whose task is to detect and destroy enemy reconnaissance and sabotage groups."
