US President's special envoy Stephen Witkoff expects to meet with Russian leaders on August 6, Reuters reported, citing a source.

According to his information, “Witkoff will be in Moscow on Wednesday to meet with Russian leaders“. The agency noted that administration officials in Washington did not provide details about the schedule of US President Donald Trump's special envoy.

Earlier, on August 5, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce confirmed that Witkoff would visit Russia this week, but refused to disclose the agenda of the visit. She also did not specify the exact dates of his trip.

TASS sources, including on the American side, previously confirmed that Witkoff's visit to Russia could be expected on August 6.

Trump previously said that his special envoy could travel to Russia this week, on August 6 or 7.

Meanwhile, the US president said that he was trying to get his country out of the military conflict in Ukraine.

„This is not my war. I'm here to get us out of it," he told reporters.

Journalists asked the US president to comment on Volodymyr Zelensky's signing of a law to increase the maximum age for service in the Ukrainian army, which will allow Ukrainians over 60 to serve in the Ukrainian armed forces under contract.

“This is a mess and I'm here to get us out of it. This is Biden's war and we're working very hard to get us out of it,“ Trump said.

“I've stopped five wars in the last five months. "And frankly, I would like it to be the sixth," he added.

The United States will later decide whether to impose import tariffs on Russia and its trading partners, Trump said, emphasizing that further steps would depend on the outcome of talks by his special envoy, Stephen Witkoff, in Moscow.

When asked by a reporter whether the United States was preparing to impose 100% tariffs on countries that buy Russian energy resources, the president replied that "he didn't say what the percentage of the tariffs would be." "But we will. We'll see what happens in a short period of time," he said. "We have a meeting with Russia tomorrow. We'll see what happens. Then we'll make a decision," Trump emphasized.
