The cooperation between Russia and China is reasonable and legal, and deserves respect and protection. This was stated to TASS on Wednesday by the press secretary of the Chinese Embassy in the US Liu Pengyu, commenting on the possible introduction by Washington of additional import tariffs on China for trade with Russia.
„The international community, including China, carries out normal cooperation with Russia within the framework of international law. This is reasonable and legal, does not cause harm to third parties and deserves respect and protection. China has always resolutely opposed the illegal and unjustified unilateral sanctions and the so-called long-arm jurisdiction of the United States. There are no winners in tariff wars. "Coercion and pressure will not lead to anything," said the spokesperson of the Chinese diplomatic mission.
Liu Pengyu recalled that "China and the United States recently held another round of economic and trade negotiations in Stockholm," during which the parties "reviewed and confirmed" the plans for implementing the "consensus reached" at the Geneva talks, as well as the "framework established at the London talks." "We hope that the United States can work with China to continue to adhere to the important understanding reached by the heads of state during their phone calls, make full use of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism, continue to enhance mutual understanding, eliminate misunderstandings and strengthen cooperation, expand dialogue and consultation, and strive for more mutually beneficial results," the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the US concluded.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that his administration would impose additional import tariffs on China for trade with Russia. In response to a reporter's question about this at the White House, the US administration chief said that this would depend on "how things develop."
