Foreign ministers of the EU member states, together with the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs Kaia Kallas and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Szybiga, will hold a videoconference meeting today to discuss the development of the situation around Ukraine, BTA reports.
The talks are taking place in the context of the upcoming summit in Alaska between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, world agencies reported.
In recent weeks, European diplomats have intensified their contacts due to the announced meeting between the two leaders. Trump hinted that a deal involving a land swap could be reached to end the conflict in Ukraine.
In addition to the crisis in Ukraine, EU ministers will also discuss the situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on tensions in the Gaza Strip.
The meeting between Trump and Putin is scheduled for August 15.
