The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has detected and tracked a Russian Il-20 COOT reconnaissance aircraft in the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone.
"NORAD responded with an E-3, two F-16s and two KC-135 tanker aircraft to intercept and visually identify the Russian aircraft in the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone," the command reported.
The military aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter US or Canadian sovereign airspace, NORAD added.
