Russia launched a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine overnight, triggering airstrike warnings across the country, according to Ukraine's state-run early warning system, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Explosions were heard in Kiev, where Mayor Vitali Klitschko said air defenses had been activated. A Russian drone fell in the courtyard of a nine-story apartment building but did not detonate, he added.
Timur Tkachenko, head of the city's military administration, was quoted by Reuters as saying that three people were killed and 24 others were wounded in the strikes on the Ukrainian capital. Damage was caused in several areas of the city.
Explosions were also reported in the northern city of Sumy and the southern city of Zaporizhia. Meanwhile, airstrikes were briefly issued in Russia's Lipetsk region due to approaching Ukrainian drones. Volgograd airport restricted operations as a precaution.
