The authorities of the Kamchatka region have declared a tsunami threat after a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the scale, which occurred off the eastern coast of the peninsula.

„A tsunami threat has been declared. "Please be especially careful when visiting Khalaktyrsky Beach and other areas," Kamchatka Krai Governor Vladimir Solodov wrote on his Telegram channel.

The governor urged residents to remain calm and take information only from official sources.

The earthquake was the latest in a series of aftershocks following a powerful 8.8-magnitude quake on July 30.

Earlier on Saturday, the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that seismologists had registered a 6.3-magnitude earthquake in the Pacific Ocean off the eastern coast of Kamchatka - tremors were felt in populated areas of the peninsula. At the same time, the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported a magnitude of 7.7, and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported a magnitude of 7.5.
