BSP Deputy Chairman Kaloyan Pargov called on President Rumen Radev to support Iliyana Yotova if she decides to run for president. The socialist stated this in the program "Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov" on NOVA, making a series of critical statements on key topics.
"Just as the BSP supported Radev eight years ago, we expect him to stand behind Iliyana Yotova now if she decides to run. This will show whether we value consistency and partnership," Pargov said.
Regarding the president's statement that Delyan Peevski is a "symbol of corruption", Pargov commented that in politics, a symbol is always sought that embodies evil, but naming one person for all sins does not solve systemic problems.
"If the president has specific parties in mind, let him name them. People expect clarity, not hints,", urged the BSP deputy chairman.
Pargov categorically rejected the claims that Bulgaria has "five prime ministers".
"No, there is only one prime minister. We cannot have five prime ministers. Yes, we have a coalition and three leaders who are meeting at a coalition council, but that does not mean that the government is headless," he said.
The socialist called on the media and society to focus on the results, not on intrigues, emphasizing: "People do not care who is the leader of the meeting. They want to know whether there will be stable prices, whether there will be water in the taps and normal incomes."
According to Pargov, the upcoming presidential elections will be key to political stability.
"In 2016, Radev's victory led to the resignation of the then cabinet. Now we will also see whether people give a vote of confidence to the government or want a new beginning," he pointed out.
Pargov supported Yotova's thesis about the need for a strategic debate on Bulgaria's position in geopolitics: "Bulgaria must determine its place between the East and the West. Otherwise, we risk being just a corridor through which foreign interests pass – without profiting from it".
On the issue of Russian gas, Pargov was categorical that stopping transit through Bulgaria after 2028 is harmful to the state.
"We receive serious income from transit fees. This is an economic issue, not a geopolitical demonstration", he said and added: "Nobody wins when we cut the branch we are sitting on. Let's think pragmatically – this money goes into the budget and finances social activities."
Pargov supported the proposal that the president should not have the authority to appoint the heads of the services, explaining that it is logical for the government to be responsible for security.
On the topic of the water crisis, the socialist emphasized that water supply should be a national priority.
"In the 21st century, Bulgarian villages and cities cannot have no water. In the next budget, we must provide money for network repairs, otherwise the crises will become chronic," he concluded.
