Poptodorova: Why didn't Radev take advantage of being one of the speakers in Sofia in front of nearly 400 parliamentarians

In her words, when talking about NATO, it should not be forgotten that this also means the European Union

About the NATO meeting in Sofia , as well as for the words that went around the world that Putin offers peace with the territories conquered so far - a conversation with the former ambassador of Bulgaria to the USA Elena Poptodorova in “In focus with Laura Krumova”.

„ Why didn't the president take advantage of the opportunity and choose to be one of the speakers in Sofia in front of nearly 400 parliamentarians, from 32 countries, from 25 partner countries, which represent 1 billion people. To choose a visit that can always be rescheduled is, I think, a wanted absence and is politically significant. The aim is to show detachment, disengagement at the very least" said Poptodorova, commenting on the absence of our head of state from the country during the assembly.

In her words, when talking about NATO, it should not be forgotten that this also means the European Union. “All the decisions that take place in the neighboring building next to the NATO building in Brussels, i.e. the EU building, are absolutely coordinated and connected,” added the former ambassador of Bulgaria to the USA.

According to Poptodorova, the signal that Rumen Radev sends with his absence is to Bulgaria's external partners and to the politicians in our country. “Those, especially one of them, who is particularly interested in the events in Bulgaria – For the Kremlin, this is an important sign for them. This is proof of the positions of the head of state and the commander-in-chief," she emphasized.

She was adamant that Radev's visit was no accident. “At the same time, this fuels extreme sentiments in Bulgaria. That's why I say the effect is two-fold, especially in an election period – national and European”.

„We are lucky, politically and geopolitically, that the NATO meeting is taking place in Sofia right now. A calendar is prepared in advance, and the fact that there is a coincidence of so many other events that have taken place sharply increases the importance of the Parliamentary Assembly. This is a plus for Bulgaria and a message to the internal territory," said the former ambassador.
