The mortal remains of King Ferdinand will be transported today to Bulgaria, BNT reported.
They will be transported by military plane to Sofia airport. From there, the coffin will travel to the Vrana Palace, where it will be welcomed by Simeon of Saxe-Coburg and his family, together with Western and Central European Metropolitan Anthony, an official envoy of the Holy Synod, and by the Apostolic Nuncio in Bulgaria, Archbishop Monsignor Luciano Suriani.
The funeral ceremony will be held in front of the "Vrana" palace, after which the coffin will be placed in the central foyer, where a short farewell will take place in a family circle. After that, the doors of the palace will be open for citizens wishing to pay their last respects, announced the "Tsar Boris and Tsaritsa Joanna" Fund.
The return of the monarch's mortal remains takes place 76 years after his death. Until now, they were laid in the crypt of the church "St. Augustine" in the Bavarian city of Coburg, where Ferdinand lived for 30 years. The solemn farewell church service took place there yesterday.
