With his move, Rumen Radev risks entering the Eurosceptic field, which includes “Vazrazhdane”, ”Velichye” and MECH. The president's association with this political field would isolate him nationally and internationally. This opinion was expressed in the studio of “Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov” by the political scientist from “Trend” Dimitar Ganev.

Radev's actions - risk or well-measured move?

„I assume that Radev realizes that there are two very powerful obstacles to the referendum being implemented at all. The first is that there is no majority in the National Assembly for this. We already have a sufficient number of political forces that have expressed a position that they will reject such an initiative. The second obstacle is the constitutionality of such a referendum. The political interpretation of the events can only be that the head of state wants to raise a debate on the euro, relying on Bulgarian citizens who are skeptical of the euro, in order to accumulate political capital that he can use at some point,” he explained.

According to him, Kostadin Kostadinov, Ivelin Mihaylov and Radostin Vassilev “should be seriously worried that Radev could take away their voters” if he heads a political project.

According to him, the deputies around Ahmed Dogan, whose immunities were again not put to a vote, are in the role of opposition. “I do not see an option in which this can change. The trend with them has been downward for several months”, Ganev explained.

Regarding the requested resignation of the Speaker of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova from “Democratic Bulgaria” the political scientist believes that it is much more important what the majority, that is, the ruling coalition, will decide. Kiselova is a representative of one of the political forces within.

"That is, this will not go without a jolt. If tension continues to build around her figure, the BSP will not have enough arguments to continue defending her. For now, a certain balance is being maintained,” believes Ganev.
