The moment is like this. We have fulfilled the criteria and we must use it, said the former acting Deputy Prime Minister

"Most likely, some advisor around President Rumen Radev advised him that this was the right thing to do. We have not spoken to him on this topic. My personal assessment is that this is the wrong decision", said former Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov on "The Day Begins" on BNT.

"You can make a decision at the moment with very long-lasting consequences and then in no way be able to go back".

The president is right about himself, said Pekanov. He has always sided with people who have some concerns, who are not sure how various processes will proceed, explained the former Deputy Prime Minister. According to him, there are three groups of people regarding our country's entry into the eurozone. The first group includes those who are categorically "for". The second group includes those who have concerns but are not Eurosceptic. Perhaps this is precisely their opinion expressed by Rumen Radev, Pekanov said. The third group, according to him, is smaller, but very noisy and aggressive, "who say all this is terrible", "the Apocalypse is coming".

"The president advocates for the second group. Apparently, people around him advised him. I understand it as a political move, but I do not share it".

In the elections, we have elected parties that support our entry into the eurozone - this is indicative according to him.

"We have always advocated for our admission to the eurozone. And in all the offices that have existed, steps have been taken, work has been done to fulfill the criteria. The horizon has always been set by the parliament - to enter the eurozone as soon as possible.

"The silent majority" is what expresses its fear of whether we are ready for our admission to the eurozone.

"The moment is like this. We have fulfilled the criteria and we must use it. If we show here that we do not know where we are going, that we are wondering, that we want more debates, it may turn out that we have to wait another five, ten years and continue with the debates. Why do I think that the debates have been exhausted? On the one hand, because in the parliamentary elections the decisions are clear - an overwhelming majority for this to happen. And at some point the debates become meaningless".

Atanas Pekanov said that one of the most important arguments for entering the eurozone are the opponents of the eurozone, because according to him "their arguments are absolutely meaningless".
