A home for the elderly in Govedartsi, connected to the "Houses of Horrors", was searched

A sixth person was detained in connection with the abuse of elderly people in the home in the village of Yagoda

BNT reported about a search and raid on a home for the elderly in the village of Govedartsi near Samokov on suspicion of inhumane treatment there.

He is probably connected to the owners of the Houses of Horrors in the village of Yagoda, where a sixth person has already been detained - because of the abuse of people there.

The last arrested person was declared a state-wide wanted person and was arrested late last night, Stara Zagora District Prosecutor Tanya Dimitrova told " Around the World and at Ours". She also confirmed our information that the National Revenue Agency has already started checking the companies for tax crimes.

The two owners of the company that rented out "rooms for rent" each have several other commercial companies. One of them is the owner and a pawnshop, and the other is developing a construction business. How did the nursing home mimic "rooms for rent" and why did some of the elderly people have their fingers amputated that night?

The sixth detainee is 62-year-old Valentin Zhelev. The employees in the homes called him "the boss" or "the boss". Advertisements for recruiting workers in nursing homes were posted on various websites in his name.

"Yesterday late in the evening he was found and detained with a 24-hour measure. Today, charges are to be brought against him and his preliminary detention", said Tanya Dimitrova, district prosecutor of Stara Zagora:

Investigators consider Valentin Zhelev to be the "shadow owner" of the nursing home in the village of Yagoda. He is the father of another detainee — 37-year-old Marian Zhelev, who, together with the third arrested — Dimitar Dimitrov, 36 — are partners in the company “Home for the Elderly VIK“.

Until the end of last year, the company held a license for this social service.

“And at the beginning of 2025, the owner filed an application for refusal of a license to provide this social service and then transferred the ownership and these are rooms for rent“, said Tanya Dimitrova.

In fact, the partners Marian and Dimitar registered a new company — “JLS 2025“ OOD.
The main subject of activity is renting and subletting the rented premises for industrial and residential needs.

Thus the new company turns out to be a tenant of the old one. And the elderly people end up being accommodated not in a “Home for the Elderly“, but in rented rooms.

“They are the owners of these properties and they performed the main logistical activity in these facilities — supplying food, supplying other things and organizing the work in the facilities“, explains Dimitrova.

The new company was established in March. The nurses from the old one were reassigned to the new one, but as maids. These are the three women who have also been detained. Two of them were nurses at the Emergency Center in Stara Zagora. The third is from the village of Yagoda.

“They are the direct persons who carried out — I call it — ‘anti-care’ towards the elderly. They served them, they gave them medicines, they tied them to the beds. There was physical violence from them, exercised against people, etc.“, said Dimitrova.

68-year-old Dinka Angelova is named as a senior orderly, and since March - a senior maid. Her former colleagues from “Emergency Room“, who wished to remain anonymous, say that she is a drinker and shows aggression under the influence of alcohol.

People from the home have testified that it was Angelova who most often attacked them.

“A man escaped, after which he was caught and beaten. He says: ‘I was beaten until unconscious, says Tanya Dimitrova.

Namely from the accused persons in question. These people really lived in very bad conditions and both mental and physical abuse was exercised against them violence.“

9 of the people who were in the “rented rooms“ were admitted to the psychiatric hospital in Radnevo, and 8 — to the hospital in Stara Zagora.

“Two of the people admitted were in serious condition and really needed serious treatment, including surgery”, said the Stara Zagora district prosecutor:

The two women underwent emergency surgery, with parts of their toes being amputated. This was necessary due to untreated wounds and developed gangrene. Most of the people were malnourished. Their daily ration was two dry sandwiches. They also received steamed rice and a little milk.

The partners Mariyan Zhelev and Dimitar Dimitrov each have several other companies with different lines of business. Zhelev is mainly involved in housing construction. Dimitrov has a pawnshop and is partner in companies that develop activities in the field of trade.

The National Tax Inspectorate has launched an investigation into the case. A tax audit is also being carried out on the alleged “boss” Valentin Zhelev.
