“The state budget is highly problematic, but it has nothing to do with the eurozone – it is problematic in both leva and euros. With this budget, the government has started to overthrow itself. You cannot take 7 billion leva in additional loans and direct them to state-owned companies, as they did in 1995 – 1996. You cannot spend in this leftist, desperate way and think that you will not have any problems.“ This was stated by MP Martin Dimitrov in the studio of “From the Day“ on BNT.
Dimitrov asked if there was even one initiative of this cabinet with which they started to reduce expenses. “Zero, there is none. We proposed that private hospitals conduct public procurement for medicines under the NHIF, we proposed that citizens receive SMS notifications when hospitalizations and other expenses under the NHIF are incurred, in order to stop the drain on the treasury.“
According to Martin Dimitrov, when Temenuzhka Petkova says that she will not raise taxes, she misses one “small“ issue, namely that her fiscal-structural plan includes an increase in insurance premiums by a total of 3% in 2027 and 2028. The MP is categorical that this should not be allowed.
Dimitrov paid serious attention to the problems related to product prices, emphasizing that price increases have nothing to do with the topic of the eurozone. “If you look at the official data, you will see that inflation in the eurozone over the past 5 years has been lower than that in the EU as a whole. On the other hand, the new regulators in Bulgaria, who were elected by the new left-wing principles, seem very weak“, said the MP.
Martin Dimitrov also sharply criticized the bill being prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture, which, according to the MP, includes taking extreme left-wing measures to stabilize prices. Among these measures is the introduction of price ceilings for producers and traders. “This is an extremely wrong intention. Hungary tried all this and there is the highest inflation in Europe“, said Dimitrov and drew attention to the package of right-wing measures for “turbo competition“, proposed by “Democratic Bulgaria“, among which is the obligation of retail chains to announce their prices every morning. If this proposal is adopted, every day, each of us will be able to see the price of a certain product in a specific store.
Martin Dimitrov called for a much more focused information campaign about the euro. “The information campaign about the euro is very weak and poorly focused. It should have addressed the issues that are most speculated about – for example, how, when the euro was introduced, prices started to rise. Montenegro and Kosovo unilaterally introduced the euro more than 20 years ago, without benefiting from the privileges of the eurozone. If their prices have risen because of the euro, aren't they crazy to stay with this currency for 23 years? Such examples are absent from the information campaign. Now is the time for an intensified campaign.“
According to the MP, the eurozone is like a harbor, a car insurance for our financial system, which gives greater peace of mind in difficult times. &ndquo; For a long time, GERB and the ruling party supported the eurozone with one hand, and with the other they self-sabotaged. There are many examples of this – the initially rejected bill on the BNB, the Insurance Code, the 18 billion budget hole that suddenly disappeared, the hesitations about whether to request a convergent report, etc.,“ said Dimitrov.
