ERM West increased inspections for electricity theft by 30%

In the first half of the year, electricity was stolen on the territory of ERM West, equal to the monthly consumption of the city of Lom

The teams for combating electricity theft of ERM West increased inspections for unregulated use of electricity by 30% in the first half of 2025.

Nearly 60,000 customers were inspected during the period, which is 30% more than those inspected during the same period in 2024.

The teams identified 657 cases of electricity theft for the period January - July 2025, of which 17% were from business users, and 83% - from household customers. The total electricity billed as a result of the inspections amounts to 3,411 MWh for the first half of 2025, which is equal to the consumption of Lom for one month. Over a third of this electricity was billed to commercial consumers.

Thanks to ERM West's measures to combat electricity theft, violations have significantly decreased compared to the first half of 2024, when the billed energy amounted to a total of 10,292 MWh.

ERM West insists on stricter sanctions in order to limit thefts that violate the quality of the service provided, lead to damage to facilities and power outages, and most often - to low voltage for regular consumers in the relevant area. All this disrupts the normal life of society and takes away resources that could be invested in network improvements and service optimization.
